15/5/20 Hello everybody and welcome to the Year 1 home learning page.
It's been a bit of a cold week, this week but it is lovely to see the sun again today. Well done and thank you for engaging in some of the suggested activities and for sharing your learning with us this week. We have noticed you being chefs -making coconut ice cream, ginger biscuits and fairy cakes. It was lovely to see photos of your celebrations and picnics on VE day with some of you making your own decorations too. We hope you had a chance to enjoy doing something different and learning more about the end of the war. We noticed some of you doing dancing raisin experiments and investigating floating and sinking. Well done those Scientists! Also some of you have been writing some amazing stories and poems. We loved reading a story about 'Drag' the dragon, a descriptive 'sense of weather poem' and listening to a brilliant performance of a weather poem. Some of you have taken your learning outside to make sundials and test wind speeds with feathers or been creative making beautiful outside art using natural materials. Well done to those who have made salt dough creatures, made animal shadows and kept reading in lots of different ways. Lastly, we hope a little surprise has arrived in the post for you! We hope you enjoy using them. (I won't say what it is in case yours hasn't arrived yet!)
Keep us posted about what you get up to next week - we love seeing what you are doing.
We have uploaded a new suggested learning sheet for next week - week nine. There are several activities linked to the colour next week - we hope you enjoy them! Remember, these are suggested activities to fit in when you can, alongside other things that you do with your family.
We also want to remind you about a chance to sing along with lots of others which sounds really exciting!.....
Young Voices at Home -
Young Voices have launched a project to encourage teachers, parents and children to sing together. Simply click on the link to register for free https://www.youngvoices.co.uk/powerinme You will then be sent details of the 'Power in Me' song and all the learning materials you need. Learn the song and then join in with a special online broadcast on 2nd June! There are also details of a #PowerinMe Singing Challenge. This is a great opportunity to sing as a family and have some fun. Happy singing!
Activities that can be dipped into at any time -
www.oxfordowl.co.uk has a good range of free ebooks and activities. This is in our suggested home learning - we will choose a different book each week from this site. For maths you can use Mathletics and Numbots, and also https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ to access video clips and daily Maths activities.
The maths, spellings, phonics, art and dice games resources below have lots of ideas so you could choose different activities each week to help you. We have also downloaded a copy of the our school prayers so you can say and sing these at home.
We hope that you and your families are all staying safe and well. We miss you very much and want you to know that we are keeping you all very much in our thoughts and prayers.
